Technological alternatives for the sustainable production of bioplastics.

The ALTEPLAST project is based on research into the most sustainable technical-economic alternatives to reduce the cost of production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) and improve the impacts derived from the conventional extraction processes of this biopolyester.

Microbiologically produced PHAs are viable candidates to replace conventional petroleum-based plastics. However, the production costs of this biopolymer remain considerably high compared to those of traditional polymers. The Project is financed with a LOST FUND GRANT of 100% of the investment or eligible expense, in the amount of €136,970.75, co-financed by 80% (that is, up to €109,576.60), by the ERDF Global Grant of which the Development Institute of the Region of Murcia is an intermediary body.
